in this which will be my last post on the history of computer games I will explore the generastio that we would all rather forget the naughties or 90's if you're boring.

this is the history of computer games from the 1990's to present day.

our journey begins with the Philips CDI of 1991 this was famous for having the most forgettable storage device... the dreaded laser disc the size of an EP and no able to withstand punishment it was useless in modern day society where the advancements of technology grew so rapidly that new and fresh idea was made every year. any way I digress the year of 1992 saw ; the SNES, Bandai super vision, Gameboy,
SEGA Genesis and the Atari lynx all names that we had in the corner of the living room or on the carpet this shows how domestic and small some of these consoles are and will become.

in 1993 the Atari Jaguar raised its head even though still on cartridges this system was still up to date and could compete with likes of the SNES and the Genesis, shame no-one bought it.
in 1994 the world was (slightly rocked by the arrival of the original PlayStation a console that along with another famous counter part helped make the gaming industry so successful. in the year of 1996 the counterpart to the PlayStation showed its self its the Nintendo 64 that came with....wait for it.... RESIDENT EVIL ill let you nerd out for a minute, okay done then lets continue a year after we saw one of the first FPS come onto the market this was Golden eye this showed the world how FPS were supposed to be done; fast, edgy and on LAN.

and this last paragraph will contain some consoles that you wont have to have Wikipedia open on a separate tab on the turn of the millennium we saw well revelation with the release of the PS2 in 2000  and the XBOX in 2001 also in 2000 we saw real online multiplier be rolled out in MMO's and on consoles we saw HAlO one of if not the most successful FPS franchise of all time we saw the father of what will become the Highest grossing game of all time as well as the most expensive to make; GTA evolution this was all done in 1 year which i find unreal i mean by this rate we will actually be IN a game by no sooner than 2050 which leads me on to my nest topic,

how the hell am I gonna get a job?

after my last post in which I talked about a brief history of computers and computer gaming I though i should continue, so here it is the HISTORY OF COMPUTER GAMES (from 1980's -1990's). the 80's were extremely significant for the development and advancements in computer gaming. this was a decade that included such greats such as the Atari 2600 and the NES the grandfathers of modern gaming consoles. but is was not consoles that were advancing at light speed desktop computers were now being created with gaming in mind and in these 10 years were see the endless battle with consoles and computers.

But first a history lesson this was the decade that saw the cold war and the fall of the Berlin wall. huge miners strikes sweep through north England and this was the decade of Duran Duran. with this in mind it was no surprise that the advancements in technology were going east out of America and into Japan and China no wonder with in  the first year of the 80's the east had created the Atari 2600 and Americas best effort was the magnavox Odyssey. but with the technology being so readily available and no real copyright was set up yet to protect the rights of consoles that by 1983 we saw the "end of the arcade" and "the end of Atari" the 3 main reasons for this was

  • over supply. as I stated earlier by 1983 there were hundreds of consloes on the market this led to
  • loss of publishing control, games and consoles were both the target here with no real infrastructure in place anyone with a basic understanding of circuitry could create a console
  • and finally the rise of the PC this was the main killer of consoles and still is today people dint just want a gaming platform they wanted something with with more practicality than the average console
and so we move into the last 6 years of the 80's but it has no sign of slowing down . in 1986 we saw an entry from Sega with the master system then we have to look at one of the more weirder consoles the Worlds of wonder action max a console whose controller was a gun. then we see the names come out for the reaming 3 years. 1987 the Sega genesis (my first gaming console) then in 1989 we see the worlds first mass produced gaming device the game-boy then in the turn of the decade we see the Revelation in gaming with Wofenstein 3D.  so in 10 years we went from space invaders to a realistic representation of a modern day FPS
